Bout re-cap: June 16, 2012: Seabrook Meltdowns vs. Granite Skate Troopers

Manchester, NH — In their second and last match-up for the 2012 home team season, the Seabrook Meltdowns and Granite Skate Troopers played an exciting and very close game on Saturday, June 16th, at the JFK Coliseum, with multiple lead changes throughout each period. Going into the bout, the Meltdowns record was at an even 1-1 and the Troopers at 0-2. The Meltdowns finally emerged victorious at 119-77, but the Troopers certainly made them work for it.

With two lead changes in the first three jams, there was no indication this would be a clean sweep. Meltdown jammer Techno Destructo started the game off with a 3-0 lead, which was quickly changed over by Cruliette Lewis of the Troopers to 4-3. McKilla Queen of the Meltdowns took the lead back at 6-5. Jam 5 began the excitement as Game Ovaries and Chuck NU Around scored 9 and 7 points each, and Cruliette Lewis brought the Troopers ahead once again in the next jam, at 21-20. With 8 more lead changes just in the first half and a score of 46-45 going into halftime with McKilla grabbing the game back for the Meltdowns by 1 point, there was no clear winner of the first half. Notable performances included solid and consistent point-scoring by PutUNya Grave of the Troopers and Ethel Lynn Oxide of the Meltdowns.

The second half saw fewer but larger lead changes, with the Troopers taking the score in jam 3 and holding it until jam 8, when Game Ovaries grabbed the lead back for the Meltdowns in a power jam. Gil T. Conscience excited Trooper fans with another change-up that her team’s blockers held onto for their final leading jams. In jam 14 McKilla scored 10 points to begin the Meltdowns victory at 80-77, where the blockers in mean white and green kept the Troopers from scoring again at all. Cee N. Spots, Game Ovaries and Prissassin brought in a chunk of the Meltdowns’ final 119 points. Notable blocking by Jager Raider, Bette Thistlehurt, N. Raging Grace, and Seriously Slam’n kept the score in control for both teams and created quite a stressful and exciting game for all!

MVPs for the Granite Skate Troopers were PutUNya Grave for jamming and N. Raging Grace for blocking. For the Meltdowns it was Jager Raider for blocking and Game Ovaries for jamming.

Going forward with 2-1 and 0-3 records, both teams will play one more time in the regular season, against the 2-0 Nightmares on Elm Street. Catch both games on July 7th and 28th at JFK Coliseum — our last two before the Kennedy Cup Championship on August 11th!
